Junior Music Course (ages 4-6)

The Yamaha Junior Music Course (JMC) is a popular 2 year program for children beginning at ages 4, 5 or 6 that provides a comprehensive musical foundation in a fun, encouraging social environment. JMC is an age-appropriate education system that teaches children to internalize the language of music through listening, singing and playing the keyboard.  Children experience singing, music reading & writing, playing the keyboard, ear training, ensembles, and creating music. JMC students, together with a parent/caregiver in class, will learn the joys of making music together both at home and in the classroom. 

Course length: 4 semesters (24 weeks each), leading to a Yamaha advanced class (JXC)
Class schedule: One 55-minute class per week
Parent participation: Yes

Age Requirement*: To enroll in JMC, children must have reached their 4th birthday by August 1 for fall semester classes or by February 1 for a spring semester start. This requirement helps ensure that children are enrolled in a course for which they are developmentally ready. 

Fees: Enrollment/Materials = $120. Autopay Quarterly tuition = $360 (per 12 weeks). Upon enrollment - Quarterly tuition will be set up to process AUTOMATICALLY on or after Aug 1, Nov 1, Feb 1 & May 1 using the same credit card. 

  • All students need to re-enroll online each summer for the following school year.  
  • Please note that students enrolling in Fall Semester JMC1 will have an additional level 2 Spring materials fee due on Feb 1.


Music Friends Course (ages 6-12)

Music Friends (MF) is our newest Yamaha course that integrates individual and group teaching methods so that students develop playing abilities at their own pace - similar to individual lessons - and also enjoy the benefits of group lessons, such as the fun of ensemble playing and solfege singing. Together with a wide and interesting range of pieces, an easy-to-learn approach and the latest learning resources, the music learning experience of the students of Music Friends Course is further enhanced. Class activities include keyboard repertoire, ensemble playing, solfege singing, finger exercises, and music theory.   

Course length: Ongoing (48 weeks per year or 24 weeks per semester)
Class schedule: One 55-minute class per week
Parent participation: Not required

Age Requirement*: To enroll in MF, children must have reached their 6th birthday prior to starting lessons. This class is open to both beginner and intermediate students.

Fees: Enrollment/Materials = $120. Autopay Quarterly tuition = $360 (per 12 weeks). Upon enrollment - Quarterly tuition will be set up to process AUTOMATICALLY on or after Aug 1, Nov 1, Feb 1 & May 1 using the same credit card.  

  • All students need to re-enroll online each summer for the following school year.

  • Tuition will be prorated for students starting before/after the beginning of the semester.

  • As students move up a level, there may be an additional materials fee.
  • Previous CYMS students who already have a Yamaha blue bag, white board set &/or MF books will receive a partial materials credit toward their 2nd quarterly tuition.


*Age Requirement note for 6-year-olds: 

New Yamaha students who are age 6 can join either JMC1 or MF.  Younger 6-year-olds may enjoy the consistency of the traditional group JMC curriculum; while older 6-year-olds may prefer the flexibility of MF (more schedule options, siblings/friends of other ages/levels can be in the same class, & parent participation is not required). 



ADVANCED CLASSES FOR CONTINUING JMC STUDENTS:


Junior Extension Course ~ JXC is a four-semester Yamaha course that builds on the skills and musicality developed in Junior Music Course 1-4.  This course is designed to strengthen keyboard technique and music reading skills, nurture musical sensitivity so that it becomes an integral part of your child's performance, and encourage self-expression by providing opportunities for musical creativity.


Prerequisite: Completion of JMC4
Course Length: 4 Semesters (24 weeks each)
Class Schedule: One 55 minute class per week


Fees: Enrollment/Materials = $120. Autopay Quarterly tuition = $360 (per 12 weeks).

  • Upon enrollment - Quarterly tuition will be set up to process AUTOMATICALLY on or after Aug 1, Nov 1, Feb 1 & May 1 using the same credit card.
  • All students need to re-enroll online each summer for the following school year.


Junior Ensemble Course ~ JNC builds on the music skills acquired in the Junior Extension Course and applies them to keyboard and ensemble performance. This exciting newer Yamaha course will further develop student musicianship and performance skills through the study of a broad range of subjects covered during the group lessons. Advanced subjects include repertoire, keyboard harmony, solfege singing, improvisation, composition, ensemble, sight playing and music theory.


Prerequisite: Completion of JXC4
Course Length: 4 Semesters (24 weeks each)
Class Schedule: One 55 minute group class per week


Fees: Enrollment/Materials = $120. Autopay Quarterly tuition = $360 (per 12 weeks).

PRIVATE LESSONS


Private Lessons
We offer private lessons for graduating Yamaha students and for new students (beginner, intermediate or advanced).

For children ages 12 and under, please consider trying our new Music Friends course for both beginner and intermediate students! Individual lessons are currently offered in piano, voice, percussion, and more. Please email us for availability.


Course Length: Ongoing (48 weeks per year or 24 weeks per semester)​
Lesson Schedule: Once per week, length varies depending on student requirements.


Fees: Enrollment Fee = $42 (Spring only = $21). Autopay Quarterly tuition = $420 for 30 min, $630 for 45 min, $840 for 60 min (per 12 weeks).

  • Upon enrollment - Quarterly tuition will be set up to process AUTOMATICALLY on or after Aug 1, Nov 1, Feb 1 & May 1 using the same credit card.
